Li Shan Heavily Charcoal-Roasted Alpine Oolong Tea

Harvested in the high-altitude Lishan region (2600m), this rare autumn batch was crafted from leaves allowed to oxidize more deeply than typical high-mountain oolong—ideal for traditional charcoal roasting. While farmers often skip autumn harvests to protect winter yield, high-mountain autumn teas possess a natural richness that becomes extraordinary after careful roasting.

Using longanwood charcoal, this tea underwent three rounds of oven roasting over three months, followed by a final finishing roast by a Lishan master. The process develops a deep amber liquor, transforming the tea’s alpine clarity into a warm, lingering fragrance.

Proper aging requires breathable storage, so each 150g limited-edition package is wrapped in traditional handmade paper and marked with its harvest year.

Flavor Profile

Cherrywood smoke · Fire-roasted yams
Thick, oily mouthfeel · Dried apricots
Roasted pecans · Molasses
Sweet–tangy, smoky, slightly peaty finish
Rich caramelized, nutty aroma upon first steeping.

Comparable to classic Dong Ding Oolong, yet with greater depth thanks to its higher-elevation leaves.

Brewing

Use any teapot—clay preferred.

Warm teapot. Add 3g of tea.

Rinse quickly.

Brew with 250ml water at 85–95°C for 3 minutes.

Good for 3–4 infusions as leaves unfurl.
